One of our clients emailed to seek advice from Dr Wei Feng, our Traditional
Chinese Medical Practitioner. Here is his reply ...
You suffer from depression and acne. I think that in your case the two problems are interconnected in some extent.
I appreciate the delicate condition that depression may bring to your daily life and I hope we can be of some assistance. A recent survey showed that 55% of us feel depressed at work and outside. There are several ways to manage depression. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) can be very effective to counteract this condition. The difference is that TCM is an holistic practice and looks into your life as a whole; it does not try to “cure” one symptom, but attempts the improvement of your life in general.
The first step into this treatment is the use of pure teas, not the industrialized English tea, but the use of fresh plants with all their natural elements intact. We naturally recommend Chinese teas. You should start with Oolong tea to and Puerh tea to cleanse the toxins from your body.
Exercise is definitely important but in your case, as well as meditation and focus on your breathing is paramount. You should start with five minutes a day and build up to half hour. Isolate yourself in a space, focus on your breathing, try to reduce the speed of your heart beat. You can do it standing up or in the lotus position. Yoga and Tai Chi are also excellent.
Also try to go for long walks and most importantly, try to get out of the city and get in touch with nature. It sounds as a cliché but its not. You must reconnect with nature and ultimately you will become more relaxed and reconnect with yourself. Every week make sure you go to the countryside, maybe to the seashore, on a bicycle ride.
Cut down on all dairy products, and if you can red meat. Eat fresh vegetables with lots of garlic. You also need lots of natural sugar either from fresh fruits or honey; never white sugar or chocolates. Your present diet with lasagne, baked potatoes and beans is really not conducive to good health. You must address your dietary habits - you need a more balanced diet. Make sure that you eat your '5 a day' and (unless of course you are a vegetarian) lean meat, fish or chicken, rice with legumes. Cut out junk food like take-aways and microwave ready-meals; if you have to open a pack or a can to eat it - don’t.
We fully appreciate you giving us the opportunity to assist you and we hope we will be able to make a difference in your life. It make take a little time but we are certain that it can bring you good results.
